Hello & welcome back to the Fan Music Extravaganza here on Trotting Through Life. Today, we turn our attention to JoaftheLoaf. His works, at least the ones I'm familiar with are on the emotional side. Let's begin.
When Home Calls - A song for Scootaloo
Scootaloo is my favorite filly and there is this fandom theory that she's an orphan, just because we've never seen her parents. That doesn't bug me, not so much as the fanficiton trope known as Scootabuse. This song is sad and it hits the right notes as in this song, we are hearing how Scootaloo wants to have a better life then the one, she has currently been dealt. Hoping that she'll persevere to make it. This song reminds me of so many fics, I've read where Scoots lives in the CMC clubhouse.
When Home's Lost (Part 2)
This is a follow up to the previous song and if you thought, the first one was sad, well this one hits ya in the feels and I'll admit, this song did cause some tears. Heck, just the image alone of cutest filly using papers as a blanket and only having her trusty scooter by her side broke my heart. In this song, we are hearing Scoots call out for help, she has given hope. It's a little eerie that we as the fan community could do this with a character.
....And I Will Wait (For You)
This song is an offshoot of his Scootaloo series, which I hope the next song in that is a bit happier because poor Scoots has been put through so much. In this song, we are seeing Scoot's pain through the eyes of Apple Bloom. Ouch, that's tough. Because AB, I imagine wants to help her friend but knows that she's need to let Scootaloo get through this on her own. I've been there and that is one of the most painful feelings, wanting to help but knowing you can't. Okay, let's move onto a song not about Scootaloo
Come Home Soon
No, instead now we have one about the Royal Pony Sisters. That's all the description says but if I were to place this song, I believe that it takes place after Celestia had to banish her sister to the moon. And this is exploring how it was eating her up inside because Luna was at that point, if I'm not mistaken her only family member. We don't know anything about their parents canon-wise. This song is a great insight into Tia's pain. And how she was hurting so much.
Regret - A Song about Trixie
Something popular in the fandom when it comes to Trixie is to tear away the facade, she wears and try to figure out who she really is. Most paint her as a heartbroken mare that'll never live up to her dreams. And this song shows Trixie as vulnerable and weak, going back to the facade. Now again, I'm going to do some placing her as this song was released before Magic Duel aired on The Hub, so I imagine Trixie's first appearance in Boast Busters, was probably still on people's mind. Then again, there was big gap between the two episodes and by that point, the fandom had probably gone over this so much with Trixie that it was old hat.
For Dashie
This song is based on the wonderful and popular fanfic, My Little Dashie. Which I've already reviewed. This song like most MLD songs are from the point of view of The Dad. It's basically a chronicle of their time together just like the song. So yeah, a little bittersweet. Still, very good. One more song and we will call it a close here. I promise, it won't be sad.
The Joy of Waiting - A song about The Cutie Mark Crusaders
Phew, I'm just happy to find a non sad song. This song is perfect for the CMC as it is a song full of hope and not giving up. That sums up, these cuties perfectly. They'll do anything to discover their special talent. As I said, it's a nice little song about keeping hope.
There you have it, I'm sorry for all the emotional songs on this one. Join me next time as I take a look at the Brony musician that got me into fan music, MandoPony.
