Rarity Retrospective: Player Piano

Hello & welcome back to Trotting Through Life and back to the Rarity Retrospective.  Now, you may have noticed that I'm skipping Inspiration Manifestation and going straight into Player Piano. Well, I did watch that episode and while Rarity is a key player in it,  it's more a Spike episode with Rarity in it, then I thought.  Now yes, I did review Sisterhooves Social and even admitted that episode was more of a Sweetie Belle episode. The thing is in that episode, Rarity had equal footing with her little sister but with Inspiration Manifestation, that didn't seem to be the case.  So instead, we are entering the portal and heading to Canterlot High to look at EQG Rarity's short that came out before Rainbow Rocks.

Which you can find on Hasbro's official YouTube Page.  So join me as  I look at Player Piano.

The Plot

The short opens on the grounds of Canterlot High as we see Rarity trying to move a Grand Piano all by herself to the practice room, where The Rainbooms are practicing.

But this is something that a lady simply cannot do by herself.  So, she gets some help from The Diamond Dogs.   Wait, would they still be called Diamond Dogs in this world? Because they're now humans.  Uh, maybe it's a gang name.   Man, I'm putting too much thought into this. Anyways,  they carry Rarity atop the piano through the high school.  While the rest of The Rainbooms wonder, where she could be and just as AJ says that she's probably making a fashionably late entrance, Rarity shows up.

And Rainbow Dash asks the fashion forward pony teenager (sorry, I still get that confused sometimes), why she couldn't have chosen a more portable instrument.  And Pinkie suggests an instrument that is part piano and part guitar, which Rainbow Dash corrects her in saying it is a keytar and Rarity has found her instrument as her magic appears as she plays but the band has to move to the gym as their time in the band room is up.  But Rarity has the Diamond Dogs carry her there atop the piano anyways.

All in all, I enjoyed this short and after yesterday's review, it's nice to watch something good with Rarity. Even if it isn't pony Rarity, this is a step above Simple Ways.

Even if this is human Rarity, this is still what I think of, when I think of Rarity and she was so much fun in this short.

My Final Thoughts

This is the only Rainbow Rocks short that I've watched since the movie came out. And yes, it's in part for this retrospective but I've also watched just because of how much I like it.  I mean the Rainbow Rocks DVD comes with all the prequel shorts and this on my DVD has gotten the most play out of the shorts.  It's easily my favorite of the Rainbow Rocks shorts. Well, that concludes our brief stint at Canterlot High.  Next time, we'll be  heading back to the world of Equestira but with the comics as we look the third issue of the My Little Pony Mirco Series...
