Fan Music Extravaganza Finale

Well folks, sad to say but we've come the the end of Fan Music Extravaganza.  The songs, we will be looking at today however are some of my all time favorites. Let's start with one, I shied away from looking at for the longest time.

Proud To Be A Brony - BlackGryph0n

It's clear that this song was written for the fans but more then that to tell them, "You like the show, so do I! That's cool. Don't hide it".  Why do I say this?  Well, many of the younger MLP fans, including myself are at first admittedly embarrassed that we like the show, we first get into it.  Listening to this song, it's just a message  "You like it, that's cool.  Don't be embarrassed".  And this song in many ways did help  me get through that hurdle.

Conquer Your Fear - My Little Musical

Ugh,  you have no idea how frustrated I am that the musical project that this song was going to be featured in was put on hiatus.  Because if this song is any indication, My Little Musical would've been a great audio show.  This song just warms my heart and I love the voice for Rarity in this.  I think she is really good.   Apparently, this song would've opened the second act.  I hope this musical does get released someday.

Just Can't Wait To Have Wings

An MLP fan song that is a parody of a Disney song done in a loving manner. Yes, please. I'll take more.  Do I even need to explain why I love this one.  It's an MLP version of I Just Can't Wait To Be King.   Brilliant,  I just freaking love this one.  It is just so much fun

Trixie  - Forest Rain

Well, this is different then the last Trixie song, we featured.  It's a nice little love ballad.  Though, why any stallion would fall for Trixie is beyond me.  Still, I love this number because it's nice to see that not every  song about The Great and Powerful Trixie is a downer. Okay weird thought but what if this song is Snips and Snails crushing on Trixie.  Why not, Spike has a crush on Rarity.  This is one more song from this artist, that I wish to look at but I'm going to save that one for last because I have to say about it.

Big Sister Now - Vocal Sore Pony

I just recently discovered this song but I like it as it's something I love as I'm a huge fan of the idea of Rainbow Dash taking Scootaloo in her as little sister.  After all the depressing Scoot stuff, I've seen it's nice to see a song like this or I'll Fly Higher but I like this one better because Dashie is the sister, Scoots needs in my opinion.   Because Scootaloo wants to be more then her number one fan and hey, if Diamond Tiara ever tries to pull anything on Scoots, she can just call her big sis.

Lullaby For A Princess  - Ponyphonic

Our next two songs are about Princess Luna.  The first one is Celestia's perspective after Luna was banished to the moon as Nightmare Moon.  Okay, does anyone else want a movie made out of that?  Back on topic, this is one of the most popular fan songs and it's not hard to see why as it is a very heartfelt look at how Tia feels she let her sister down. And she could've been a better big sis to Luna.  She is putting all of the blame on herself.    Even though, in my opinion it's not really her fault.   Luna is the one who let the jealously, and hatred consume her.   That is what overtook Luna and made her Nightmare Moon and by that point, Celestia had no option but to her to banish her sister. She had to protect her kingdom.    I'm going to borrow  a quote from Mr. Spock here to sum this up.

The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few.

Celestia had no choice but to banish her little sister. And as sad as it is, she made the right choice for the whole of Equestira. Because who knows what would've happened if she had let Nightmare Moon stay.    Equestira would've gone to utter chaos.

Get outta here Discord, I wasn't talking about you. Don't make me call Fluttershy. How is she doing anyways? Ahem, back on topic.

Luna's Reply  -  MsIkarishipper

I like this song a lot because it's Lullaby For A Princess from Luna's perspective and her realizing  the wrongs, she has committed.  And how she now has to pay for them.      And how she knows, it's going to take a long time before she has forgiveness.  Oh by the way, someone did a fan mash up simply titled Lullaby For A Princess  -  Duet, that I like even more. This is one of a dozen mash up of these two songs but it's my favorite because I actually included Luna's most important line from Luna's Reply.

I never should have done this

And I gotta be honest,   I like this better then the songs individually.  Why?  It's an interesting contrast of guilt.  Tia blames herself because she feels that she should've been there more for Luna and Luna rightfully blames herself because she is the one that let the hatred and jealously consume her.  And the love of the sisters is even more apparent, when you put the two songs together.  This gives me an idea for my next Pony project,   a musical based on The Rise of Nightmare Moon.  Then again, that'd be a little challenging.

Who I Am?  - DrDycer  (Based on the Fanfic Past Sins)

Consider this one,  a preview for an upcoming event in  November regarding the fanfic, it's base upon. I really wanted to talk about it.  Past Sins is one of my all time favorite fanfics and it comes highly recommended.  What is this story about? Nightmare Moon but not Princess Luna.  For those that are confused by what I mean about this not being about Luna.   In this story,  there is a cult of ponies who worship Nightmare Moon and wanted to create a new Nightmare Moon to overthrow the Royal Pony Sisters.   They are led by the main villain, Spell Nexus, who just happens to work at Celestia's School For Gifted Unicorns in bringing the new Nightmare Moon to life.  However Princess Celestia puts a stop to them midway through the process as they had her captured her most faithful student. And I don't think I've ever seen an angrier portrayal of Tia.   So because of the process being stopped,   Nightmare Moon wasn't fully developed and instead,  it was just a child.

Nyx,  who eventually becomes Twilight Sparkle's adopted daughter.  But she is the embodiment of Nightmare Moon.  And she does become Nightmare Moon eventually but she's pressured into it by Spell Nexus and the cult.  Yes, there are other factors that lead up to little Nyxie becoming Nightmare Moon such as her feeling that Twilight doesn't love her anymore with she willingly lets Princess Celestia take to be tested by Spell Nexus without Twily going.  And in that instance, that is the only time, Nyx screamed out "Mommy" because she was scared. And I wanted to slap the princess across the face for doing that.   As for what she looks like as Nightmare Moon, here ya go.

But what I find most interesting about Nyx as Nightmare Moon is that she as Nightmare Moon realizes what she is doing is wrong and basically sacrifices herself to protect all of Ponyville.    She made her mother proud.   Now that I've mentioned all of this,  this song is a reflection of Nyx asking herself  "Am I the monster that they see me as?"  Because as lot of ponies including Granny Smith hate Nyx because of what Nyx did as Nightmare Moon. Funny, how they seem to forget that she basically save them from being attacked by some ferocious beast from The Everfree Forest.  So many people including Shining Armor as we see in the official sequel, Winter Bells both hate and fear little Nyxie.   And his hatred/fear comes from him thinking that Nyx will harm Twilight.   When that isn't the case but getting back to the song, it many ways reminds me of Elphie in Wicked.  In how Oz had painted her as this monster without getting to know the real Elphie.  And that is pretty much what happens in Past Sins.  Nyx is judged without ponies getting to know her.   She does have friends such as Twist and the CMC.   And I truly think that this song captures the feelings of  wondering "Am I what they view me as?"   Again, track down this story.  It's worth a read.

Because I'm Shy  -  ElectroKaplosion

After that last song, how something a little simpler.   Why do I love this song? It's Fluttershy.   Do I need any other reason?  Okay admittedly, there have been rather shall we say disturbing things done with my girly.   Such as a certain fanfic that will remain unnamed that painted the cutest pony as a psychopath.

Yeah, that sums up my feelings.   Anyways, this is a good Fluttershy song because it captures who Best Pony is.  She knows that she's weak, timid and shy  and she isn't very good interacting with other ponies.  In a way, this song is her speaking up for herself saying"Just because I'm shy doesn't I like being ignored"  And in this song, it wasn't until she the other Mane 5 that she opened up some and became less introverted.

My Cadence -  matthewmosiermusic  (Ft. Megaphoric and ismBoF)

Yay,  a Cadance song.  Okay first off,  I won't get into the whole spelling debacle which to spell my favorite princess's name is correct because the show has given us two different spellings the "e" and "a"  spelling.    Anyways, this song quite simply is about Shining Armor's love for Cadance and how without her by his side,  it just doesn't feel right.  And this song gets that across quite well.   And now our last song.

Great To Be Different  - Forest Rain

I'll be very honest, I never thought that a song based on MLP would  make me cry and make me ask myself some deep questions.  This song out of every song, I've featured hit the most close to home.   Sure, it's just a song of it's okay to be who you are but that is something I struggle with to be honest.  I've always said that I'm my own toughest critic, sure I had the occasional bully here and there growing up.  But growing up and even now because I'm still growing,  I struggle with not who I am but asking myself  "Am I who want to be?"   This song to me is a reminder that even with all of my flaws and differences,  I am  happy with the young man, I am.  I may not be the smartest, the most handsome or the most rich and I may have weird traits and have had many obstacles thrown my way. But I made it through  Let me put this way, the worst  I've faced wasn't a bully but rather just everything I've lived with.  This song takes me back to a time in my life when I was really hard on myself and  I thought was the stupidest person alive.  I would spend day  and night punching myself in the face calling myself stupid during those times.  It's hard to think back to that but for a while I truly thought I was an idiot.  That's the worst thing, anyone can ever do to themselves. You know what it took to get me through that,  my mom making me look what stupid truly meant.  That helped a little bit but it took some time to convince myself that I wasn't stupid.  It hurts to think back to those days but I know the truth.  To answer my question "Yes, I am the man I want to be".  This song also uses Derpy in a way that I like.  Now if you want a really great impact check out the animation done to this song by BronyDanceParty.

Also please be sure to check out, greattobedifferent.com.   It is simply put the most beautiful and touching thing that this wonderful community of awesome Bronies and beautiful Pegasisters have.   If you read just some of the stories over there, you will experience various levels of emotions.   Happy, sad, anger, everything in between.

And so that brings the first ever Fan Music Extravaganza here on Trotting Through Life to a close.  I hope that you have enjoyed this look at some of my favorite songs from the Brony and Pegasister community.  If you have any favorites, let me know. Peace!
