My Top 6 MLP OCs

Enjoy, my very first MLP article.

Yeah, I'm doing my first MLP countdown. Probably the big reason, I held off doing this for so long is because I didn't know what to do it on. But seeing as I've been spending a lot of time reading MLP fanfics. Something, I thought I'd never do, I thought I'd countdown my Top 6 MLP OC's. For those that may not know, OC refers to Original Character and amazingly, the Brony community has a lot of great OCs. With that out of the way, let's begin. Now there are not pictures for all of the characters, but most of these stories have cover pictures and I'll be using those instead. Enjoy!

6. Magic Dust

Okay, so maybe it's wrong of me to include my own character on this list but I couldn't leave Magic Dust off this list. I just wouldn't feel right. Anyways, a little backstory for Magic Dust, long before I was ever into MLP, Dawn_Heart made this pony for me but for the longest time, he didn't have a name. That wasn't until earlier this year, when I came up with Magic Dust. Magic repersenting the magic of Disney and Dust being a reference to pixie dust. Now Magic Dust or Dustie as I sometimes call him hasn't been used that much as of yet but he will be filling in for me on a future Music Fridays. There really isn't that much to Magic Dust, other then, he's trying to figure out the meaning of his cutie mark and I don't know why but I decided to make him Twilight Sparkle's cousin. Yeah, I think that was kinda dumb in the long run. Again, Magic Dust really doesn't have much to him as of yet but I really like the little guy. Again, I know it seems silly to include my own character on here but I had to and that's the main reason, he's only at # 6. Dustie, isn't the greatest out there but I couldn't leave him off this list.

5. Bloodwing - Project Ascension

Our only villain on the list and boy, is this guy creepy. Quick heads up, if you wish to read this story, your going to need to read the story that came before it, Longing. Which that is perhaps the only Twilight Sparkle is Spike's mom story, I like. That's a common theme in MLP fanfic. Anyways back to it's sequel, Bloodwing is just creepy. Imagine an evil scientist and then up to 10. That's Bloodwing for ya. What makes him so creepy? Well, let's see first, he kidnaps Scootaloo. (one of the cutie mark crusaders) and we later find out that he created her. (Fanfics can be weird) and against her will, turns into an allicorn. For those that may not know, an allicorn is a horse with both wings and a horn such as the princesses. Oh for those wondering how he created her, he stole some of Rainbow Dash's DNA. Because of that Dash decides that Scootaloo is her daughter. (Your going to see Dash as a mom on this list a few times). Oh, let's not also forget that he kills Spike. (Don't worry he comes back to life as a unicorn, again Fanfics can be weird). And he has no regard for anyone but himself and the only way to defeat him is by overpowering him. Honestly, my description is not doing him justice, he is perhaps the most imdimdating villain in any MLP fanifc that is not from the show.

4. Steel - The Fears of Yesterday/ If You Hear Me, Let Me Know

To be honest, I'm not even sure, why I like this character as much as I do. And again, there is a story that comes before these two, that is required reading to understand what is going on. That story is Family Mares. Which is one of my favorite types of MLP stories, Rainbow Dash adopting Scootaloo. Hey, I can't help it if I'm a sucker for that kind of stuff. But it also comes with something that I hate but have come to expect from the fanfics, something in the MLP fanfic world referred to as Scootabuse. What is that, well for whatever reason and I'll never understand it, MLP fanfic authors like to give Scoots, abusive parents. Such as in this trilogy, her biological father, Jade, to put it bluntly is an ass and treats Scoots terribly. So, she escaspes by Rainbow Dash and her wife, Spitfire adopting her. In the first story, she's ten years old and the second story, is set seven years later and there, she discovers that she has a little brother. Okay, maybe that part of the reason, I latched onto Steel. I've always wanted a big sister/little brother relationship in the show and if this is the closest I can get, I'll take it. Steel on his own is okay, in The Fears of Yesterday, he is a young impressionable little pegasus that will listen to anything, his father says such as telling him that his sister's adoptive parents are evil because they are in a same sex relationship or as MLP fans refer to it as fillyfoolers. (Where do these terms come from?) Of course, life isn't made any easier after Scootaloo kills Jade in self defense after he breaks into her, Rainbow Dash's and Spitfire's house. Things only get worse as time goes on and that's reflected in If You Hear Me, Let Me Know as Steel is now 13 years old and he is going through a lot besides the usual teenage drama. I mean life isn't easy, when your big sister killed your dad and he finds out who he thought was his mom, who by the way, his dad killed is not his real mother as his dad had a one night stand and he just got his first grilfriend but he accidentally hurt her and feared that he was turning into his dad after he did that. This sound like a lot because believe me it is, and I know this is a lot of drama but it works and while the third story, hasn't been updated in a while that is where Steel gets to shine as we get to see Steel reflect everything that has happened in his life and that's a lot of a young colt, when you stop and think about everything, I mentioned.

3. Rainbow Blitz - A Day With Dad/ A Day With Friends

Now, we actually have a character on here that hasn't had some tragic past. Kinda hard to, when your only five years old. And thankfully, you don't have to ready any story that takes place before these two as these are currently the only two stories featuring this character. How to describe Rainbow Blitz? Hmm, well for my fellow Bronies, imaginie Rainbow Dash's brashness, and prankster side in the body of a five year old boy and that is Rainbow Blitz. Makes sense considering that in these stories, Rainbow Dash is his biolgoical mother and for wondering, the dad is Soarin', a member of the Wonderbolts. Quite honestly, Dash is in so little of the first story as it is more about the father/son relationship between Blitz and Soarin'. And I have to say that it is one of the most adorable things ever. You can feel how much he idolizes his parents and how much he loves having fun with them and wants to be like them such as seen in the not yet finished sequel, A Day Wit Friends, where he apparently is going to attempt a Sonic Rainboom. And within this story and staying true to the show's contituinty, his mom is the only pony to have ever pulled off a Sonic Rainboom. One of my personal favorite moments featuring this little guy has to be the first story, when he wakes up his dad. He puts so much thought into how he is going about doing it and treats it like an adventure. It is one of the most adorable things ever. Now in the sequel, we get to meet his friends, who are kids of the Mane 6. Starting with Capricorn, who is Fluttershy's son and he's an allicorn and a little snot. He drugged his own mother just so that he and Blitz could sneak out of the house. Then there is Golden Delicious, Applejack's daughter, who hates working on the farm and is a Southern Belle. And oh, she also has a crush on Blitz and the last kid, we met was Gizmo. The son of Twilight Sparkle and Big Mac. Haven't really formed an opinion on him yet but I do know that we will also be meeting Pinkie's daughter, Surprise soon. Which that is a common for OCs in stories involving the Pink one. As we are going to see with the next entry.

2. Surprise - To Her Surprise

Surprise is a character that completely caught be by well, surprise. I read this story on my train ride home from New York as I was looking for a good Pinkie Pie story and I happen to come across this story of Pinkie as a filly and Surprise took Pinkie real fast and made her friend and talk Pinkie everything, Pinkie would come to do as a mare such as the random parties and making other ponies happy. So, you might argue that Surprise was Pinkie before Pinkie was Pinkie. And you'd be half right because in this story, Pinkie is still Pinkamena and for fans of the show, they know that there is a big difference between the two as that is who Pinkie was before she learned to be happy and in this story, Pinkie learns from Surprise not only how to be happy but how to also make others happy. For another comparsion from the show, it's kinda like how Scootaloo looks up to Rainbow Dash. Surprise always wanted to look for the best in everyone such as Pinkie think her dad hates her and her cutie mark. (That's a common theme in Pinkie Pie stories) but it's turns out that isn't the case and Surprise tells Pinkie, that she should go easy on him. Really, the only difference between these two is that Surprise is a pegasus. Now even though, she is like Pinkie, she is not a bad character at all.

1. Clay - Wings For A Pony/ Wings For A Pony 2/Wings For A Pony: Becoming Mommy

There have been very few fanfics where an OC is the main character and I'm able to get invested in the OC as the main character but with the Wings For A Pony series, not only was I invested in our main character but I felt for him Clay is an earth pony that Rainbow Dash finds in the Everfree Forest all by himself and she at first reluctantly takes him in as no one else can but over time, she comes to love him as her own son. Though Clay ad always felt out of place as a young child being that he's an earth pony being raised by a pegasus. All he ever wanted was a pair of wings, so that he could fly with his mom. Quite honestly, that broke my heart. Not as much as when a little Clay asked Rainbow, if she truly loved him. Rainbow told him to never ask that question again because she would always love him. You can just feel the bond between mother and son in these stories and see how much they mean to one another but on top of that, Clay is also a great character on his own. The way, he interacts with his friends at both 5 and 13 years of age feels very real and he does get wish for wings as his friend, Dinky, who is a unicorn uses the same spell that Twilight Sparkle used to give Rarity wings on him. Part of the reason, he does this is because he meets a young pegasus filly around his age named Firefly and he wants to impress her. Well, it works out at first but the wings only last for three days and he was going to tell her the truth that is until his former bully/now friend Sky Tearer rats him out. Just the emotion that he goes through and questioning where he belongs is what made me click with this character. In Becoming Mommy, we see a little Clay as Rainbow Dash is first starting out raising him and that is my favorite story in the series as it is just so adorable. In Wings For a Pony 2. which hasn't been updated in a long time, Clay and Firefly are now married and have two kids of their own. Their adopted unicorn daughter Evening Star and their pegasus son, Firebolt. Clay found Evening Star, the same way, his mom found him in the Everfree Forest and wanted to give her a safe home and that's why, he along with his wife adopted her. It's nice to see this character in a father role but I enjoy the stories and chapters with him as a little kid more. The best way to sum Clay in the original story is that he is the main character of a coming of age story that is very well put together and it doesn't matter if your different or not related by blood, family is still family. Before Clay, I had never latched onto an OC like I have with Clay and he is the main inspiration for this list.

There you have it, my very first MLP Top 6. I hope that you have enjoyed this article. Peace!
