Flutter Month (Yay!): Green Isn't Your Color

Hello & welcome to Flutter Month (Yay!)  Today, we are taking a look at one only a really good Fluttershy but also a really good Rarity episode. And Twilight Sparkle had a  pretty decent subplot as well.  Honestly,  the more I think about it,  this could be a contender for second best Fluttershy episode and perhaps the best duo episode.

Episode Title

Green Isn't Your Color

This is a good title as it refers to the old saying "Green with Envy".  Which in turn refers to Rarity's jealously over Fluttershy's success.

The Plot

Admittedly, there is a lot going on in this episode.  We start off with one of Rarity and Fluttershy's spa dates. When Rarity runs in and tells Flutters about her run in with Equestira's high profile fashion photographer, Photo Finish.

And Miss Rarity goes on to beg Fluttershy to do the modelling for her.   Which is pretty funny. We then cut to the intro and afterwards, we are Miss Rarity's shop, the Carousel Boutique, where we see Fluttershy modelling and Spike serving as a pin holder.

And this is where Twilight's subplot about keeping secrets kicks in.  Because Spike tells Twilight and Pinkie about his crush on Rarity.  Even though, it is rather obvious.

Can I get one of those but replace Miss Rarity with Carrie Underwood?   No, darn!   Ah, well it was worth asking.   And this is when Photo Finish comes in to work de magicks.  I'm going to be upfront I really don't like this Lady Gaga lookalike.

Photo Finish says that she'll this fashion star shine all over Equestira.  And at first, everyone thinks this is about Rarity but that is not the case as we see at the next photo shoot. No, she is going to help Flutters shine across Equestira and neither Flutters or Miss Rarity are happy about this.  As Flutters doesn't like the spotlight and Rarity is a little jealous of her friend getting all the spotlight.  Something that this episode does differently then a lot of these is that sometimes the one that a character is jealous over would rub it in their face but Flutters because that isn't the type of character, she is.  She wants out of this because she's hate being in the spotlight.  Kinda like me,  I don't like having the spotlight on me. I've always made the joke about having the spotlight on me. "Can we move it a little to the left?"     But Miss Rarity convinces that Fluttershy that she must, she must, she must do it.  Because she thought it would make Flutters happy and so Fluttershy goes on to become a star.

And we see  how Rarity and Fluttershy asking Twily  gets to her.  And how Pinkie keeps reminding her that telling a friend's secret is the easiest way to lose their trust FOREVER!!!    Later on, Twilight comes up with a way to make Fluttershy look foolish on stage because she lamented how they loved her and if she wasn't her, they wouldn't like her anymore and it worked at first as the audience started booing. And even Derpy wasn't a fan.

How nice of Derpy to take her eldest, Sparkler out to a fashion show.  Back on topic:  Rarity sees her best friend failing on stage and stands up for Flutters.

And Flutters was taken aback by this and the girls finally talk and tell each other the truth.  And do a Pinkie Promise to let one another know if anything is bugging them,  they'll talk in the future.  And Twily can't keep it in and blurts out Spike's secret.

Is Pinkie auditioning for the role of The Magic Mirror and I'd ask how she did that but I've learned not to question the logic of Pinkie,  it could lead to mass hysteria.   There are so many things I love about this episode.  The big one being it's a great episode for Flutters and Miss Rarity, two of my favorite characters.   And it teaches a good lesson, even if the lesson is a bit cliche and Twily's lesson is good too.   And Pinkie is funny but I do take issue with her not wanting Twi to tell.  I get it but so much confusion would've been saved.  I really can't blame that on Pinkie though.   Really, the only thing I didn't like about this episode was Photo Finish,  I just think she's a forgettable character.

Characters

Now, this will be broken down  into Main, & Supporting.   With that out of the way, let's begin.

Main Characters

Fluttershy voiced by Andrea Libman

This episode really gave us a taste of how Flutters hated the spotlight and didn't want to be a model but at this point in the series, she didn't know how to say no. Something, that'll be touched upon in a future episode, so she just let Photo Finish walk all over her and take over her life.    That is perhaps the biggest thing to take away from this, if Flutters had just spoken up, maybe she could've gotten out of this mess.  And let's not forget how adorable it is, when Flutters gets angry in this episode.  She got so angry that she had to scream and then later on kick something.

Rarity voiced by Tabitha St. Germain

Again, with Rarity, if she had told Flutters how jealous she was, all of this could've been avoided but it was interesting to see her be jealous.  Because it does make sense as Flutters is living the dream, she wanted.   I must admit that it is pretty funny to think of all ponies, she was jealous of, it was Flutters.   Because that is the last pony, I expect someone to be jealous over.   But it was conveyed very well and I liked how even though Miss Rarity was jealous,  she still tried to support her friend.

Photo Finish  also voiced by Tabitha St. Germain

Okay, first off I must say that I had no idea that Rarity's VA also played Photo Finish. That is pretty funny and explains, why they aren't in many scenes together.  Anyways as I was saying, I didn't care for this character all too much because of how pushy, she was.   I mean she never even asked,  my girl if she wanted to be a model. She instead  pushed into that role.  And I swear that Photo Finish is what would happen, if Lady Gaga were a pony.

Supporting Characters

Twilight Sparkle voiced by Tara Strong

Once again,   Twi's role was good in this episode and you could feel her frustration because she wanted to honor her friends' secrets but at the same time,  she knew if she had told them,  it would've saved so much headache.  Still,  I think Twily learns that sometimes it's okay to go against your friends' wishes.

Pinkie Pie also voiced by Andrea Libman

Pinkie was just random in this episode and in some ways, I get her purpose but you could've almost cut her out and have the same story.  Well, no because she was the one instilling in Twi that telling a friend's secret is the fastest way to lose their trust FOREVER!   But other the that, she was mostly played for laughs.  Which is fine but that added so little to the overall story.  It's not a bad thing, I love Pinkie.  She's my second favorite character but I don't see what role she filled in this episode.

My Final Thoughts

This is a good episode and I'd say it's up there as one of my favorites.   Everything just comes together to tell a wonderful story.   I think this is my favorite pairing episode, where more then one pony is the main focus.   Hey,  what are you doing.  What have I said about keeping...
