My Thoughts on The Equestira Girls Trailer

Well, the Equestira Girls trailer has landed upon us and... I don't think it's all that bad.

Now like my Oz trailer article from last year for my series A Look at Disney, I'll be breaking this trailer down and talking about what I liked and didn't like.

There, Celestia says something along the lines of  Twilight will know more about this world then she does.  Meaning that Celestia had knowledge of this human world.   Cool, I can live with that.   And after going through a portal Twi ends up in our world. Looking like this. And it appears, we're still going with the retrieving the crown plot. Making think it is the Element of Magic

Honestly, she doesn't look that bad. Notice unlike the promotional images, she doesn't have wings and her cutie mark isn't on her face but rather a part of her outfit.  I can live with that. I highly imagine a lot of fans had that reaction after viewing the trailer. I also have to give this trailer credit for explaining why Twi can't use her magic as it didn't come with in her transformation.  (Poor girl, going through so many transformations in a such a short span can't be easy)  And to compare her to another DHX character,  human Twilight reminds me of Blythe from Littlest Pet Shop but more colorful.

And personally, I'd rather watch EQG over Littlest Pet Shop as that is one of the most dull shows out there. I also have to admit that this little joke did make me chuckle.

I know it's dumb but I thought it was pretty nice quick joke.  Now, there was one thing regarding Twilight, I didn't care for. Something the show has avoided for a long time but...  I guess since this is a movie, they felt the need to include a romantic interest.

Many people, myself included think this is supposed to be a humanized Shining Armor.  So maybe, it's not a boyfriend type deal but maybe a big brother type role. And just being friendly to the new girl.  I could live with that.   Now Spike is still a dog but I think that  happened because it looked as though, he went through the  portal with Twilight.

Who wants to bet that Spike is making googly eyes at Rarity!

Yeah, still not a fan of this idea. And while we're I have to say that Fluttershy and AJ don't look that bad as humans and wearing pony ears is cute and kinda funny  I'll have more on Fluttershy down below.  I'll . Also,  I noticed with Pinkie, that her human form still has her bubbly personality.

When she blew the balloon and her face flew back, I knew that was still the Pinkie I love and count as one of my all time favorite characters.   Now let's also touch on Dash and Flutters.    Starting with Dash, there is one complaint that I have found annoying.  In the mane show,  Dash is the most athletic and some would go so far as to say that Rainbow Dash is a tomboy.  I won't dispute that but I will dispute are the claims that Dash wearing a skirt goes against her character.

Really people. really! A skirt, people are complaining about an article of clothing.  If it were skimpy or revealing, I'd understand but is not.   Also, just because Dash is an athlete doesn't mean she can't wear girl's clothing.   And honestly, the skirt is only girly looking part of her attire.  The rest of her humanized look keeps that tombyish feel.  So,  I see no issue with this.  And now we come to Fluttershy.  As you know, Fluttershy is my favorite and the character, I was most worried about in this transition.  And...

She doesn't look bad but the Flutterfan in me will never be able to accept a replacement for the real thing. To me this will always be Fluttershy.

This is not a problem with the film itself, it is just me as a fan stating how I feel about my favorite character.  Human Flutters, not as cute as MLP Flutters but there wasn't enough of her in action unlike say human Pinkie to form a full opinion on her.  Same with the human version of Miss Rarity.

Of course,  these are two of my favorite characters and  admittedly,  I'm a little protective of them.   Same is true of Pinkie but as I stated,   the human Pinkie gave me hope that she'll be like the Pinkie I count as a favorite character.

Now , I also like that there was  a brief Vinyl Scratch cameo. I  missed it but Equestira Daily said that Octavia and Carrot Top appear in the trailer as well.

That's great and all but where's Lyra.   C'mon, a human Lyra.  That would be awesome.    I mean, here's a fan drawing of Lyra done in the EQG style.

Sorry, Lyra is just my favorite background pony.  Should do an article on her.   Back on topic, there are some characters that appear that don't make much sense to me.  Mainly Snips, Snails & the CMC.  Makes me think we'll see a humanized Cheerliee as their teacher in this world.

It seems they've been aged up to be high school freshmen.  Odd,   I would've kept them as little kids but ah well and is Scoots doing the Chicken Dance?   Now as for the big villain...

I like her!  Yeah, she's the cliche high school "might as well call her Sharpay Evans"  Queen Bee but  I don't know.  Something about this character screams fun and awesome to me.  Now from what I understand she is based on one of the toys named Sunset Shimmer, who in the toyline was Celestia's student before Twilight. And it was said that she'd never appear on the mane show.   Maybe that's still the case here and came to this world before Twilight and got trapped there and wants the crown for herself to get back to Equestira or she's just a Queen Bee.  Though, I'm going to chuckle if I'm right. Doubt it but that'd be funny.  I could honestly see her being up there with Trixie as one of my favorite antagonistic characters.  Which in a way, Trixie could work in this role. Still, I'm happy to see new character introduced.

And I love how the trailer ends with Pinkie stating what I think the cautiously excited such as myself are thinking.

I'm so nervaexcited.      Honestly,   I see that joining the ranks of Yay, Liquid Pride, & 20 Percent Cooler as one of the best MLP memes.  If nothing else, this trailer gave me a new favorite Pinkie moment for my Top 6 Pinkie Pie Moments Part Deux.

So overall, I don't think the trailer is that bad.  People are just making a big deal out of nothing.  Honestly, this film will sneak in and sneak out.   It's being released the same weekend as Man of Steel. Which, I'll be seeing instead of this as I'll wait until it airs on The Hub.   Look, the voice cast will be voicing their characters. Daniel Ingram is doing the music.  Oh and as for the song in the trailer,  it's grown on  me, each time I watch this.  I have faith in this and I'm willing to give it a chance.  If it sucks, so be it but don't write it off . Give it a chance.  This is the last, I'm going to say On Equestira Girls.   I'll follow the development but until the film airs on The Hub, this blog will focus on ponies.
