Hello & welcome to Trotting For Love, Trotting Through Life's first week long event as we celebrate Valentine's, Hearts & Hooves Day, all week long. Yep, this is Trotting's first week long event. And we are starting with a Top 6 for my favorite MLP Princess. The Princess of Love, Princess Mi Amore Cadenza, Princess Cadance. Now, seeing as Cadance hasn't been in as many episodes as Fluttershy or Pinkie Pie, I'll also be including moments from the first novel, and the comic books. Now, I know that a lot of people don't really like my Cadie but I love her, and with that out of the way, let's begin.
Coming in at # 6 is
Sunshine, sunshine, ladybugs awake! Clap your hooves and do a little shake!
Yes, this is the moment that I had to have on this list as this the moment that I always think of Cadance. The sunshine rhyme is a sweet and simple moment that shows how much these two care for one another. When we see Cadance and adorkable filly Twil, it's just a fun and silly little rhyme but when foal-sitter and best charge meet up again as adults, Cadance uses it to convince Twilight Sparkle that she is the REAL Cadance and best princess and Twilight are reunited. Now for a while, this was the standard greeting but as of Equestira Girls and Three's A Crowd, it hasn't shown up. I guess, I understand but as a Cadance fan, I don't like this.
5. Cadance Geeks Out Star Swirl's Candle - Three's A Crowd
Okay, I'll be honest, when I heard about Three's A Crowd, I knew that most people would be geeking out over the return of Discord. Me, "I was thinking that's nice", and then I saw that Cadance was like..
Yeah, I was more excited about Princess Cadance appearing then I was the most popular MLP foe. What can I say? I like her more then Discord. And there was this cute little moment with Cadance and Twilight at The Traveling Star Swirl Museum, where they see one of Star Swirl's candles and she geeks out about it.
Twilight Sparkle: A whole day to celebrate Star Swirl the Bearded. What could be better? Princess Cadance: Absolutely nothing. [gasps] Is that the candlestick he used to light the way when he was exploring the caverns of Maretania?
It's a small moment to be sure, in this episode that takes too long to get started but I like the idea of Cadance being a history geek and nice to Twily's Star Swirl costume and Twily cosplaying. That is adorable and I just loved seeing Cadance geek out like that because I've done that with Pony and Disney. And it's the last thing, I expected from Cadie but it was uber adorable.
4. Young Cadance Grills Filly Twilight For Information About Shining Armor - Neigh Anything (My Little Pony IDW Issue # 12)
Young Cadance: Okay Twilight Sparkle, first off... I need you to tell me absolutely every relevant piece of information you have your brother. Then we will make cookies and have the best night ever? Agreed?
Filly Twilight Sparkle" Oh.. Okay... WAT.. What?
Filly Twilight Sparkle: OOOOH. I get it! You liiiike him! You think he's cuuuuuuuuuute!
Young Cadance: Well I.. Yes. Will you help me?
Issues # 11 - 12 of the MLP comic is set in the 1980's of Equestira detail how Cadance and Shining Armor fell in love, where we get to see Cadance's foal-stting job for Twily. And it's hilarious because she grills the little filly for every piece of information on her big brother that she has. It's just so funny to see this as she is crushing on Shiny hard and I love how Twi has graphs and charts that detail that these two are meant to be each other's very special somepoines. Adorable. Also, I just seeing Cadance picking Twi-Twi like that trying to get all the information. And Twilight is no fool, either, she plays along nicely with Cadance and this was the start of a great friendship. Also, I'll be doing a two part review of Neigh Anything as a part of Trotting For Love.
3. Cadance Turns Her First Heart - Twilight Sparkle and The Crystal Heart Spell
The novel, Twilight Sparkle and The Crystal Heart Spell details Twilight's time adjusting to being an Alicorn. In one of the chapters, Twilight goes to Cadance on advice on how to adjust to life as a princess and that is where we get her backstory, it turns out that she was born an orphaned pegasus filly and taken in by Earth Ponies and raised in the woods. As she grew older, she reversed a spell on a pony named Prismia, that hated everyone and held spite as she wore a necklace that amplified her evil and jealously but when Cadance was around, it amplified her love. Thus Cadance discovering that she can help ponies to see lift isn't worth hating and instead spreading love. Now, I know that a lot of people have often said that Cadance is a lot like the Care Bears in this regard and this is usually meant as derogatory. And I can get that but I don't know, this aspect of her character has never bugged me as I like this and it's not used that often because I find that this is just a sweet idea that is overly saccharine like with the Care Bears. Also, this is where Cadance becomes an Alicorn, as she ends up in the same place from Celestia's Ballad and she is also adopted by Celestia to become her niece to learn what it takes to be a princess.
So, that was also a sweet moment and I loved getting Cadance's backstory as the show hasn't really delved much into her past. Now as of right now, according to Meghan McCarthy, the books are in canon with the show, so we most likely will not see this story play out in the show due to that. Shame really, as I'd like to see this moment in the show proper but the book did a great job nonetheless.
2. The Crystal Heart has returned. Use the light and love within you to ensure that King Sombra does not. - The Crystal Empire - Part 2
This moment made it onto the list as I find that this moment shows that when push comes to shove, Cadance, like Aunt Celestia can be a great leader and find the right words of encouragement. She knew that the Crystal Ponies were scared because King Sombra had returned but she didn't have time to be scared because her subjects needed her to be brave and this was a great moment to show that she had learned well from our Aunt, what it takes to keep your subjects fear at bay.
And my # 1 Cadance Moment is This Day Aria. This had to be # 1 as this was the moment, where I fell in love with Cadance and she one of my Top 4 favorite Pony characters. No lie, she ranks that high on my list, she can even give Fluttershy and Miss Rarity, a run for their money for the top spot. Why this song? Well, it's a great song and looking at Cadance's part of the song, you get to see how determined, she is to get to Shining Armor. Nothing will stop her, from saving the love of her life and getting back to him, no matter what. She'll do whatever it takes and that's true love right there. She fought her way back to get her man and you gotta respect that. She had a never give up attitude and she did not give up. Plus, it doesn't hurt that this is such a great song and this song will always remind me why Cadance is the best. I just gush and melt every time, I hear this song and this is Cadance at her best. Fighting for her love.
